Dr. Alison McMillian has been practicing orthodontics for over 20 years. The thing she likes most about her job is seeing beautiful smiles develop and the confidence that comes with this development!
Born in Mount Airy, North Carolina, she grew up dreaming of attending University of North Carolina. Her dream came true! Both she and her twin sister received their undergraduate degrees in 1983. While at Carolina, she was a member of Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. During her junior and senior years, she volunteered at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in the pediatric emergency clinic and also volunteered at John Umstead Hospital. Here she worked with children who had severe emotional problems. Not until senior year did she decide on dentistry as her career choice.
Dr. McMillian entered the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 1984 and graduated in 1988. She was a member of Delta Sigma Delta dental fraternity and was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon honor society. Although she loved many aspects of dentistry, she really wanted to specialize in the field of orthodontics. She began a three-year residency at the Ohio State University and graduated with a Master’s degree and certificate in orthodontics in 1991. Wanting to come back closer to home, she chose Greensboro as the best location to establish her practice, and has been there ever since.
She resides in Greensboro with her husband, John Goodman, and their two sons, Max and Lee. She spends most of her spare time being a mom!
Dr. McMillian strives to provide an office where everyone feels comfortable and is treated in a caring manner. She aspires to quality orthodontic care for all of her patients, both children and adults. This often includes treatment choices that balance function and aesthetics. She continues her education with courses that help her stay in touch with the most recent advances in the field of orthodontics. One of these is Invisalign, for which she is a certified provider. She is also an active member of the Lagniappe Dental Study Club, American Association of Orthodontics, and American Dental Association.
